DRUG INFORMATION UNIT (DIU)
The main activities
of Drug Information Unit (DIU) are a question-answering
service and production of a quarterly drug bulletin,
the Drug & Therapeutics Letter.
The question-answer service:- The Drug Information
Unit provides information on drugs requested by doctors,
nurses, paramedical staff and pharmacists of TU Teaching
Hospital, and teachers as well as students (both undergraduate
and postgraduate) of the Institute of Medicine.
DIU provides following
drug related information:
Indications
Drug of choice (wherever
applicable and possible)
Dose (both adult and child)
Route and frequency of
administration
Duration of treatment
Adverse drug reactions
Drug poisoning
Drug interactions
Contra-indications
Special precautions
Drug use in pregnancy, old
age & diseased conditions
Drug Availability
Stability and storage
Questions can be put to DIU by telephone,
in person, by mail or E-mail. Depending on the urgency
of the request, availability of resources, and workload
on DIU staff, the answers will be provided at a time predetermined
by both parties.
